My favourite quotes

Today’s prompt was to blog about your favourite quotes, so I’ve chosen two that I’m sure I’ve probably mentioned before but I love them and I think they probably say a huge amount about my beliefs and values.

I was put on this earth to be the great woman behind a great man

I’m starting with this one because it’s the shortest and the least controversial of the two. I say controversial because I know exactly how some people feel about this topic, but anyway! I love this quote because it sums up what I want out of life so simply. I’ve always wanted to be a wife and mother; the leading lady to a leading man. It’s not because I don’t consider myself capable of success alone, I do, but I don’t want it, I want my success to be in providing a stable home life for a good man.

I do not want to be the leader. I refuse to be the leader. I want to live darkly and richly in my femaleness. I want a man lying over me, always over me. His will, his pleasure, his desire, his life, his work, his sexuality the touchstone, the command, my pivot. I don’t mind working, holding my ground intellectually, artistically; but as a woman, oh, God, as a woman I want to be dominated. I don’t mind being told to stand on my own feet, not to cling all that I am capable of doing but I am going to be pursued, fucked, possessed by the will of a male at his time, his bidding. – Anais Nin

My second choice is actually my favourite quote, it’s by the amazing Anaïs Nin, and I’m sure you can see why people may have a problem with it. It’s not for everyone, I’m not saying it is, but when I first heard it, it spoke to me like no other quote has. It embodies everything I feel about my womanhood.

What are your favourite quotes and what do they say about you?
